Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is an upcoming release of the action RPG Elden Ring, originally developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco in 2022. This version is specifically tailored for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo’s next-generation console, and was officially announced during the Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025. The game is slated to launch later in 2025, though an exact release date has not been specified yet.

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 with Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, as revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025. This marks the first appearance of the acclaimed action RPG on a Nintendo platform, scheduled for release in 2025. The announcement highlights a significant third-party addition to the Switch 2’s lineup, following the console’s reveal for a June 5, 2025

The Nintendo Direct trailer, aired on April 2, 2025, presented gameplay footage of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the Switch 2. It featured familiar scenes from the base game—combat against demigods like Radahn and exploration of the Erdtree—as well as moments from Shadow of the Erdtree, including the Land of Shadow’s dark landscapes.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition includes the full base game, originally launched in February 2022, and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, released in June 2024. The base game features an open-world adventure across the Lands Between, where players, as a Tarnished, explore six major regions—Limgrave, Caelid, Liurnia, and others, to restore the shattered Elden Ring. The expansion adds the Land of Shadow, a new area with additional bosses, weapons, and narrative elements centered on Miquella. The trailer showcased this combined content running on Switch 2 hardware.

Gamescom New Exclusive Classes: Revealed!

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition features exclusive Armor Sets, new weapons, customization options for Torrent, new classes, and includes the base game with the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion. Gamescom 2025 ran from August 20 to 24, 2025, showcasing exciting announcements and news for a ton of games to come in 2025 and the succeeding years to come. One of the booths that was present at the event was the Nintendo booth, where players got the chance to try out Elden Ring’s Tarnished Edition on the Switch 2, showcasing one of the new classes exclusive to Tarnished Edition, the Heavy Knight.
In a reddit post, a short video can be seen showcasing the Heavy Knight in the character creation, and some action in combat during the tutorial part of the game that takes place at The Chapel of Anticipation. The Heavy Knight features a robust black heavy-plated armor set and a large curved sword. Observing its design, it reminds us of classic knight builds in other Souls series, and we can say that this class is meant for players who favor melee combat.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition New Content


The announcement also introduced 2 exclusive features for this edition: 4 new Armor Sets and 3 customization options for Torrent, the player’s spectral steed. The trailer displayed these armor sets as visually distinct from existing designs in addition to new weapons from past titles, while the Torrent customization appeared as an aesthetic modification, with no further details provided on their functionality.
As of the April 2, 2025, announcement, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 with a 2025 release. The trailer and accompanying details establish it as a complete package of the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and new armor and Torrent customization options.
