Elden Ring Player Embarks on Insane Challenge, Fights Messmer Every Day Until Nightreign Drops

The Elden Ring community is no stranger to wild challenges, but one dedicated player, chickensandwich420, is taking things to a whole new level. In a test of sheer endurance and skill, they’ve committed to fighting Messmer from Shadow of the Erdtree every single day, using a different weapon each time, without taking a single hit—until Elden Ring: Nightreign releases (via TheGamer).

Originally, their plan was to take on various FromSoftware bosses across multiple games, fitting for a multiverse-themed title like Nightreign. However, reality kicked in. “I’m lazy, and it’s my last year of uni, so I don’t want to spend time grinding bosses instead of doing work,” they admitted. Still, even with that “scaled-back” approach, this challenge remains borderline insane.

The Ultimate Test: NG+7, No Hits, New Weapon Every Time

What makes this feat truly legendary is that they’re not just fighting Messmer every day—they’re doing it on NG+7, the hardest possible difficulty. Oh, and did we mention they’re using a different weapon each time? So far, they’ve cycled through 22 different weapons, including the Serpent Hunter, Blasphemous Blade, Beast Claw, and Backhand Blades.

For most players, simply surviving Messmer on NG+7 is a nightmare—but doing it flawlessly with a new weapon every time? That’s next-level dedication. Let’s be honest: many of us would struggle to take him down with our best gear, let alone avoid a single hit. I’d probably get obliterated before I could even switch to two-handing my Blasphemous Blade.

The Road to Nightreign – And a Backup Plan

Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards, is set for a 2025 release, and it promises a multiverse showdown, bringing in bosses from across the Soulsborne universe. That means Dark Souls legends like The Nameless King, The Centipede Demon, and The Duke’s Dear Freja will be making their grand return.

For players who thrive on suffering, this is fantastic news—but for chickensandwich420, it means an end date for their grueling challenge. If everything goes according to plan, they’ll only have to endure daily Messmer battles for another year. However, they have a backup strategy just in case FromSoftware takes longer than expected. “If this game doesn’t come out by the end of June, I’ll branch out to other games,” they revealed.

The Madness of Soulsborne Challenges

FromSoftware’s games have always been playgrounds for hardcore challenge runners, but this dedication is something else. We’ve seen players conquer NG+1000, no-hit runs, and meme-worthy playthroughs—but the idea of daily suffering against one of Elden Ring’s toughest foes is a special kind of commitment.

Whether or not chickensandwich420 makes it to Nightreign without breaking their controller in frustration, one thing is clear: the Elden Ring community’s love for self-inflicted pain knows no bounds.
